Feds nail cocaine gang in New York
Dominican drug lords used code words such as "pretty girls" and "invitations to Sammy Sosa's birthday party" to refer to cocaine when distributing about 25 kilograms a week in the New York area, the feds charged yesterday.
Drug Enforcement Administration agents have led a wave of raids in New York, Colombia and the Dominican Republic during the past week, arresting 12 accused traffickers. Four others have been charged, but are on the run. Apart from their chatter about girls and baseball, members of the New York distribution cell, led by Dominican Marcos Pena-Gonzalez, also referred to their illicit cargo as "computer discs," court papers said. An indictment filed in Manhattan federal court accused the ringleaders of conspiring to distribute hundreds of kilograms of cocaine in New York City and New Jersey.
Two of the ringleaders, Paulino de la Salcedo-Genao and Mauricio Rivas-Gomez, were nabbed in Colombia yesterday.
